The Impact of Nitrogen Deposition on Forest Soil Respiration

Nitrogen deposition can affect the process of soil respiration, thereby influencing the carbon cycle in forest ecosystems. Therefore, conducting in-depth research on the effects of nitrogen deposition and soil respiration on the carbon cycle in forest ecosystems can help us better understand the mechanisms by which human activities impact global nitrogen and carbon cycles. Soil respiration is a crucial process in the ecosystem, it is closely linked to soil fertility, ecosystem productivity, and the regional and global carbon cycle. The factors that affect soil respiration include physical factors, biological factors, human activities, and climate change. We have summarized previous research and found that nitrogen deposition could directly or indirectly affect soil respiration by affecting soil C/N ratio, soil microorganisms, plant nutrient structure, and ecosystem productivity. Additionally, the increase of nitrogen deposition in different forest ecosystems had different effects on soil respiration. Therefore, the effect of nitrogen deposition on soil respiration is complex. The response mechanism between them is not yet clear and requires further investigation.
