Imaging of Groin Pain

Musculoskeletal groin pain is a relatively common problem, which can be difficult to manage clinically as the anatomy is relatively complex, with multiple structures contributing toward stability and function of the groin, resulting in the signs and symptoms of different pathologies overlapping with each other. Imaging is therefore often crucial in aiding the clinician in making a diagnosis and guiding appropriate management. However, it is easy for imaging reports to confuse the situation further as the terminologies used to describe the pathologies vary. Experts have convened to try and simplify the terminology, and the radiologist should have a good understanding of the anatomy and the current terminology to be able to interpret the imaging effectively. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the relevant groin anatomy, clarify the nomenclature for groin conditions, and present the imaging features of the most common causes for groin pain.
