Imaging tumor metabolism plays a key role in the achievement of personalized cancer care, where the detection and accurate characterization of tumors is a necessary step in developing the best treatment plan possible for the patient. In this context, the widespread use of radiomics and artificial intelligence (AI) for cancer imaging has opened new opportunities for the optimal characterization of tumor heterogeneity and metabolism. This book chapter examines the present and the future of the thriving interdisciplinary effort of cancer imaging and AI and discusses the necessary measures required to deliver its promises.
