Bariatric Surgery and Female Cancers
摘要
Bariatric surgery is recognized as a successful intervention for weight loss and addressing obesity-related health issues. This chapter investigates the association between obesity and the increased risk of ovarian, endometrial, and breast cancers, emphasizing obesity’s significant role in the pathogenesis, progression, and mortality of these conditions. Notably, bariatric surgery has been linked with a lower incidence rate of these specific cancers. Studies also highlight benefits like earlier diagnosis, decreased recurrence, and improved prognosis, especially in breast and endometrial cancers. However, the evidence displays heterogeneity, indicating a need for further research to fully understand bariatric surgery’s impact compared to other emerging obesity treatments. Deciding to undergo bariatric surgery should involve a collaborative approach with patients and healthcare professionals, considering the personalized nature of treatment decisions.
