The Sweet and Sour of Glycan Targeting in Cancer
摘要
Glycans play pivotal roles in cancer growth, tumor cell spreading, and immune escape. Therefore, they constitute interesting targets for immunotherapies against cancer. Glycosylation also interferes in immune checkpoint blockade therapies such as those targeting PD-L1/PD-1 axis. Furthermore, it also plays a role in other monoclonal antibody-based immunotherapies. In this chapter, we will focus on immunotherapies in which glycans play a key role, including carbohydrate-based vaccines, passive immunotherapy, glycan receptor targeting, and immune checkpoint blockade immunotherapy, describing both traditional and innovative strategies against cancer based on glycans.
