Laparoscopic hepatectomy is now an established method of treating liver tumors. Nevertheless, its role in hepatocellular carcinoma is less well defined. The reason for this is that most of these patients suffer from both cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. As a result of underlying cirrhosis, laparoscopic surgery will be more challenging, resulting in slower dissemination of this approach to the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Throughout this chapter, we will examine the techniques, outcomes, and limitations of laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma. We hope this chapter helps to expand and further develop laparoscopic surgery as an option for hepatocellular carcinoma treatment.
