Palliative Care in Childhood Cancers

Due to the increase in individuals with life-threatening or limiting diseases, palliative care has been accepted as a special field in medicine in recent years. Palliative care in children is different from adult patients and requires a different approach. Pediatric palliative care is a care system of the highest level that focuses on improving the quality of life of the child and family and cares about physical, spiritual, social and spiritual needs. The purpose of this review is defining the characteristics of pediatric palliative care, stating its differences from adult care, and discussing care models and the role of health professionals. Health professionals working in the field of pediatric palliative care in childhood cancers should follow training and research, increase their knowledge and skills, and work for the development of pediatric palliative care. Being with this group with special needs and sharing their life stories can contribute to the individual and professional development of health professionals.
