Occupational Therapy Approaches to Cancer Rehabilitation from Childhood to Adulthood: Aim, Scope, and Innovations
摘要
This chapter explores the diverse scope of occupational therapy (OT) interventions in cancer rehabilitation and addresses the unique challenges individuals face from childhood through adulthood. The primary goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted approaches used by occupational therapists to meet the evolving needs of individuals throughout various stages of life and cancer treatment. It is aimed to emphasize the importance of personalized interventions by examining the changing needs of individuals with cancer at different life stages. Ensuring the participation of individuals with cancer in activities of daily living and preserving functionality and independence are the main goals of occupational therapy. Providing psychological and emotional support at every stage of the cancer journey is important and occupational therapists recognize the role it plays in improving wellbeing. Additionally, occupational therapists are using innovative approaches to rehabilitation to explore the integration of assistive technology and adaptive strategies in cancer rehabilitation and how these innovations empower individuals to overcome the challenges posed by the disease and regain control over their lives. Cancer rehabilitation is a holistic, comprehensive process that includes lifelong needs. As part of the interdisciplinary team, occupational therapists contribute to comprehensive rehabilitation practices from childhood to adulthood.
