Salivary gland tumors (SGTs) comprise a small component of head and neck tumors. However, they have different clinical findings and outcomes, and diverse treatment options are considered depending on their subtypes. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides detailed information about the location, contour, extension, accompanying lymph node, and perineural spread of SGTs. Nevertheless, conventional MRI has diagnostic limitations with regard to tumor characterization. Recently, multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) has been obtained by adding diffusion-weighted images and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to conventional MRI has become a crucial diagnostic tool. High specificity, sensitivity, and diagnostic accuracy have been achieved using mpMRI to distinguish between malignant and benign SGTs. Owing to these advances in diagnostics, better clinical results can be realized. The purpose of this chapter is to evaluate and describe the mpMRI findings that differentiate the most common SGTs.
