Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) can be mastered by surgeons without experience of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP), although this involves a steep learning curve. In Japan, the number of institutions offering RARP and the number of RARP procedures being performed have increased rapidly. Consequently, RARP has become the new standard procedure for localized prostate cancer. However, the outcome data from many institutions focus on oncological and functional outcomes, with little information about complications. The complication rate of RARP is lower than those of open radical prostatectomy and LRP, and RARP causes less severe complications. However, even RARP can cause minor complications. Investigation and prior understanding of the complications of RARP may contribute to improving the perioperative stability and patients’ quality of life. In the present chapter, complications that have not been published in previous reviews are also described.
