Breast cancer ranks as the most frequently diagnosed and life-threatening form of cancer in women, serving as a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in this population. Among women afflicted with breast cancer, the primary factor contributing to treatment failure and mortality is the resistance to cytotoxic chemotherapy. Individuals unresponsive to chemotherapy often demonstrate resistance to various antineoplastic drugs with different structures and mechanisms of action, indicating a multidrug resistance phenotype in the malignant breast tissue. Recent progress in the field of oncology has led to an enhanced comprehension of the human genome’s role in these changes, opening up avenues for the development of targeted therapeutic strategies. Precision medicine, an approach that integrates clinical and diverse data to categorize patients into novel subgroups, plays a pivotal role in these developments. This chapter delves into recent progress in the therapeutic strategies for various solid tumors, emphasizing the significance of precision medicine in addressing breast cancer, especially in cases of multidrug resistance. As we explore the current landscape of precision medicine for breast cancer, it becomes apparent that tailoring treatments based on individual characteristics is transformative. However, this journey is not without its challenges. Therefore, the chapter also highlights the obstacles associated with precision medicine in the context of breast cancer, underscoring the imperative to overcome these hurdles to fully unleash the potential of precision medicine and usher in a new era of more effective and personalized therapies for breast cancer.
