Article 136 [Measures Specific to the Member States Whose Currency Is the Euro]

Article 136 TFEU is part of Chapter 4 of Title VIII of the TFEU on Economic and Monetary Policy. That chapter establishes provisions specific to MS whose currency is the euro. Bearing in mind its objectives, scope and past use, Article 136 TFEU is the most prominent provision within that chapter. It allows for a decision-making capacity specific to the euro area, which has proven key in the adoption of legislative reforms of the economic governance of the Union during the economic and financial crisis.
