Chitosan and Its Derivatives in the Delivery of Peptides and Proteins
摘要
Natural polymeric polysaccharides are being used to deliver therapeutic agents like peptides, proteins, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), vaccines, and sensitive drugs. Natural polymers like chitosan are being conjugated with different growth factors, proteins, and peptides and are being delivered in the form of microparticles, nanoparticles, nanomeshes, nanogels, and nano sprays to the site of damaged tissues for regeneration purposes. Several strategies are being focused on to refine chitosan properties for the effective delivery of active biomolecules. In this chapter, we summarize the challenges, pitfalls, and prudence of chitosan-mediated drug delivery in the scenario of regenerative disease-reversing strategies.
