In this lecture, various long-term changes in Chinese history are explored, offering insights into technological advancements, commercial activities, socio-economic mobility, and the leveling of society. The lecture emphasizes the persistence of technological innovation until the 17th century, contrasting it with developments in Europe during the same period. It acknowledges Joseph Needham's contributions to understanding Chinese science and technology. Furthermore, it highlights the ecologically friendly nature of traditional Chinese technologies and their impact on agricultural practices. Additionally, the lecture discusses the rise of commercial activity, marked by the widespread use of banknotes and the proliferation of periodic markets, shaping a mindset of entrepreneurship among the populace.
