  • Guy S. Alitto

摘要

In this lecture, the focus is on elucidating significant changes spanning two millennia of Chinese history. “Eclectic common sense” historiography guides the analysis, advocating for multi-causal interpretations. This lecture highlights the socio-economic shift from the late Tang to the Song Dynasty, emphasizing increased commercial activity and urbanization. Moreover, it delves into the pivotal role of population dynamics in shaping dynastic cycles and civilization. Particularly noteworthy is the exploration of the 18th-century population explosion, attributed to factors such as the introduction of New World crops and advancements in medical knowledge.
