16 Mahayana, the Attack on Buddhism & Analectic Nature of Chinese Thought
摘要
In this lecture, the journey of Buddhism's assimilation into Chinese culture is explored. This includes linguistic adaptations and cultural adjustments to make the doctrine comprehensible to the Chinese populace. The emergence of Mahayana Buddhism as a fully-Sinicized version marks a significant shift in religious practice, catering to a broader audience and integrating into Chinese society. Furthermore, the lecture delves into the societal impact of Buddhism, including the development of clergy, the introduction of the Bodhisattva concept, and the synthesis of Buddhist elements into folk religion.
