Localization Accuracy of Occupied over a Large Area Objects as Well as High Aspect Ratio Objects in Satellite Images

Image registration methods are widely used to process satellite images of the Earth. This requires establishing the correspondence between images of the same landmarks obtained from different distances and angles under different lighting conditions at different times of year and so on. A method is presented for assessing the potential localization accuracy of occupied over a large area objects and high aspect ratio objects, which can be considered planar given the orbital altitude, from which the image is taken. The accuracy of localization is determined depending on the shape of the vector reference image, its size, its accuracy, and boundary localization accuracy of the observed image. It is shown that subpixel localization accuracy for occupied over a large area objects and high aspect ratio objects is possible under favorable conditions.
