Semitransparent Heater Based on Thin Gold Films

Abstract

The possibility of designing a semitransparent heater based on thin gold films is demonstrated. A thin gold film with a thickness of 15 nm with a sheet resistance of 3.5 \(\Omega\) / \(\Box\) and a transmittance of 0.4 in the visible range was deposited onto a quartz substrate by pulsed laser deposition. The maximum heating temperature of the semitransparent heater was 113 \({}^{\circ}\) C at an applied power of 1.2 W. When a voltage was applied, the heating rate varied within the interval 1–2 \({}^{\circ}\) C/s; the heating rate rapidly decreased as the temperature approached the steady state.
