The Effect of Different Loading Modes and Durations on Condition of the Helicopter Transmission Gears when Operating under Oil Starvation Conditions

Abstract
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the impact of loading mode duration and load magnitudes on the performance of helicopter transmission gearboxes when operating under oil starvation. The study considered the results of laboratory studies on gearwheel components before and after exposure to oil starvation, simulating different emergency landing scenarios after an alarm for pressure loss in the lubrication system was triggered. The influence of load magnitude and duration on wear patterns during gearwheel testing under oil starved conditions was determined. Based on these findings, recommendations are proposed for certification testing to simulate a gearbox lubrication system failure in helicopter operations.
