Metrological Analysis of Surface Texture and Methods of Its Functional Assessment after Surface Plastic Deformation

The article discusses approaches to metrological assessment of surface texture formed as a result of surface plastic deformation. Special attention is given to the use of three-dimensional texture parameters specified in the ISO 25178 standard for quantitative description of surface topology. The relationship between texture characteristics and functional surface properties, such as lubrication retention, coefficient of friction, and wear resistance, is analyzed. Analytical relationships describing the effect of roughness parameters on the tribological behavior of contacting surfaces are presented. The role of surface plastic deformation as an effective method of deliberate formation of functional texture is demonstrated. The necessity of an integrated approach to metrological and functional analysis in engineering design of working surfaces of parts, especially those operating under friction conditions, is substantiated.
