Abstract <p>The article considers deposition of TiB<sub>2</sub> coatings by ion-assisted magnetron sputtering. The effect of ion assistance on the characteristics of TiB<sub>2</sub> coatings deposited on cutting inserts made of Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>/TiC ceramics is shown. Assessments of the wear resistance of ceramic inserts with TiB<sub>2</sub> coatings during longitudinal turning of tool die steel Kh12MF are given.</p>
