Abstract <p>Rack and pinion transmissions are widely used to convert rotary motion to linear motion. A higher kinematic pair with three degrees of freedom is proposed in the present work; the additional mobility increases the functionality of this system. Structural analysis of a mechanism with the proposed kinematic pair shows its promise as a component of a piston compressor drive.</p>
