Abstract <p>The detection of cracks in the blades during the operation of gas turbine engines is considered. Experiments permit comparison of the current surge recorded when using impermeable flat electrodes and grid electrodes. Grid electrodes prove more effective than flat electrodes in signaling the presence of a crack.</p>
