Abstract <p>The emergency shutdown of a liquid rocket engine by the emergency protection system (EPS) and the functional diagnostics system (FDS) is studied. The proposed integrated control system, which uses the advantages of the EPS in monitoring rapidly developing malfunctions and the advantages of the FDS, which detects slowly developing malfunctions in advance in the online diagnostics mode, ensures timely shutdown of the engine or its transfer to a safe operating mode, preventing catastrophic consequences. A table and an algorithm for making a decision by the FDS–FDS system are presented.</p>
