Structural Analysis of Gear–Lever Cyclic Mechanisms with Noncircular Gears

The structure of cyclic gear–lever mechanisms containing a pair of noncircular gears so as to decrease the singular velocity fluctuations of the input element is analyzed. The qualitative and quantitative composition of links and kinematic pairs is investigated. The mobility of a crank–slider mechanism and a four-bar linkage with a pair of noncircular gears is also studied. As practical examples, a transmission fitted with noncircular gears to permit more uniform shaft rotation in the electric motor of a piston compressor is considered.
