Reducing the Mass of a Battery Case in a Pilotless Aircraft by Topological Optimization

Abstract
In the design of pilotless aircraft (drones), reducing the mass may be of critical importance. In the present work, topological optimization is used to decrease the mass of the aircraft’s battery case. The calculation of the model is illustrated, and aluminum is shown to be the best material. In describing topological optimization, features of the model calculation and additional constructions are taken into account. A manufacturing technology for the optimized case is proposed, and a material with similar properties to that used in the calculation is selected.
