Graphical Determination of Cut-Layer Dimensions in Machining by a Modular Hob

Abstract
A method is proposed for determining the cut-layer dimensions in tooth milling by modular hobs, on the basis of graphical CAD software. The cutting trajectory of each tooth is determined, with successive drawing of each trajectory, after Boolean subtraction of the cut metal. By this method, the optimal cutting parameters may be determined, the required tool material may be selected, and the machining cost may be greatly reduced.
