Reinforcement of High-Strength Aluminum Alloy Structures by Steel Inserts

Abstract
A system is proposed for applying bidirectional pressure to solidifying metal, by means of plungers. The pressure and its rate of application correspond to the position of the solidification front and the metal shrinkage at liquid–solid transition; this is an innovation at the global level. The corresponding experimental equipment has been designed and constructed. The possibility of improved reinforcement and more effective use of aluminum alloys is established.
