Abstract

The paper presents long-term data on the concentration of the \(\alpha\) -,  \(\beta\) -, and  \(\gamma\) -isomers of HCH, DDT, and its metabolites in the water of the Atlantic currents at the Kola Section. The concentrations of  \(\Sigma\) HCHs and  \(\Sigma\) DDTs varied from  \(< 0.05\)  to 2.92 ng/L and from  \(< 0.05\)  to 1.64 ng/L, respectively. The differences in the levels of the HCH isomers, DDT, and its metabolites in the water of the Central branch of the North Cape Current and the Main and Coastal branches of the Murman Current were found to be statistically insignificant.  \(\alpha\) -HCH and p, p′-DDE prevailed among \(\Sigma\) HCHs and  \(\Sigma\) DDTs, respectively, in the water of the Kola Section. The levels of \(\Sigma\) HCHs contamination showed seasonal variability. Higher concentrations of \(\Sigma\) HCHs in the water were observed in the winter-spring period (February, March, May), and low ones were registered in the summer-autumn period (June, August, September).
