Abstract <p>An algorithm for adapting a fractional-power PI-speed controller of the rotor to the varying load of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is proposed. The adaptive fractional-power PI-controller operating as part of the automatic control system (ACS) of the PMSM has been numerically tested using the MATLAB application software package in the Simulink simulation environment, with the dynamic load on the engine being taken into account. The simulation results confirm that the adaptive fractional-power PI-speed controller of the PMSM rotor is operable and the quality of ACS control is enhanced.</p>
