Abstract <p>This article is devoted to the improvement of return traction current collection schemes in the traction power supply system of railway transport. To reduce the negative effect of return traction current on the operation of railway automation’s electric rail circuits, it is proposed to use a filtering device in the return traction rail network, based on a serially produced choke transformer. Indicators are formulated to assess the possibility of such an application. Recommendations are given for the implementation of the proposed solution in order to reduce unproductive losses of electricity in an electrical traction power supply system and ensure train traffic safety.</p>
