The Avalanche–Streamer Transition in Short Air Gaps within Solid Insulation

Abstract
The effect of the properties of a solid dielectric on the development of a discharge in air gaps bounded by solid insulation is considered. An impact of the dielectric constant and layer thickness of a solid dielectric in the interelectrode gap on the formation of a streamer discharge in air gaps under an almost uniform electric field is analyzed. The results of numerical simulation are presented and analyzed from the standpoint of developing discharge processes in structures incorporating solid insulation.
