Abstract <p>The possibilities of operating microhydroelectric power plants operation with the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology are shown in order to more fully utilize the energy of a watercourse. The developed functional diagram of an inverter microhydroelectric power plant with an MPPT ballast controller and the algorithm of its operation are tested on a simulation model implemented in the MATLAB software package. A sufficiently high speed of the proposed MPPT technology allows its use for almost any inverter microhydroelectric power plants. The proposed structural diagrams and control algorithms ensure the most efficient use of the hydraulic energy of a small watercourse.</p>
