On Estimation of the Shock Current of a Powerful Synchronous Generator Based on the Results of a Sudden Short Circuit Experiment

Bench tests are an important component of the production of synchronous machines. In Russian national standards, acceptance and acceptance-testing procedures include the crucial experience of sudden short circuits. The primary method for obtaining parameters of synchronous machines in accordance with both Russian national and foreign standards is the graphical–analytical method. This article proposes a method for estimating phase surge currents based on the results of oscillography of transitional processes during sudden short circuit tests. According to this method, the resulting surge current is determined using a vector-symbolic approach with the help of phase surge currents. A comparative analysis of these two methods has been carried out.
