A Three-Wire Traction Power-Supply System for a Subway Train

Abstract
It has been shown that a three-wire traction power-supply circuit of subway trains increases its energy efficiency by only reconnecting the power lines. The reduction in total electricity consumption by traction substations on a test section of seven traction substations during a model time of 2 h was 2.9%, the reduction in energy losses in the contact and running rails was 6.3%, and the increase in minimum voltage in the traction network was 10–25 V. This indicates the prospects for further study of this system, working out issues of modifying rolling stock to protect against polarity reversal and operation of signaling, centralization, and blocking devices.
