Experience in Developing a Synchronous Electric Motor with Permanent Magnet Excitation

Synchronous electric motors with excitation from permanent magnets (SMPM) with a rotor design in which the magnets are constructed into the core slots, due to which there is a significant difference of magnetic conductivities along the longitudinal and transverse axes, are discussed. These machines are used in light electric transport: electric and hybrid cars and electric and hybrid buses. Unlike SMPM with a rotor design that has surface magnets, SMPM with built-in magnets can operate above rated speeds by rational controlling the stator current. At the same time, the development of SMPM with built-in permanent magnets is a task associated with the construction and optimization of not only the design of the machine, but also the selection of inverter components and configuration of the control system.
