Efficacy of Application of Fomesafen and Clomazone Mixture for Weed Control in Potato

In 2022–2023 in Leningrad oblast, the effect on the mixture of herbicides Nexus (240 g/L of fomesafen) and Traser (480 g/L of clomazone) in Liga variety potato was evaluated according to the following schemes: 1.0 + 0.25 L/ha, 1.0 + 0.5 L/ha, 1.25 + 0.25 L/ha, and 1.25 + 0.5 L/ha. The pure form of herbicides was used as the standart. The experiments were carried out in accordance with the methods of herbicide registration trials (2013, 2020). The use of a tank mix of herbicides Nexus + Traser allowed for most fully controlling the mixed type of weediness typical for the Northwestern region. The application of the tank mix herbicide according to the scheme 1.0–1.25 + 0.5 L/ha resulted in the decrease in the mass of annual dicotyledonous weeds higher than 75.0%, and the decrease in the mass of annual cereal weeds reached 88.3%. The use of the pure herbicide Nexus was most noticeably inferior to the application of the tank mix of herbicides Nexus + Traser (1.0–1.25 + 0.5 L/ha) in terms of effect on Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv. and Chenopodium album L. The main advantage of the tank mix of herbicides over the pure Traser herbicide was the effect on Polygonum lapathifolium L. Reduced competition of weeds contributed to the preservation of Liga variety potato yields cultivated in the Northwestern region. Under normal moisture conditions, the potato yield after using the tank mix of herbicides Nexus and Traser (31.0–35.8 t/ha) significantly exceeded the crop yield after using these herbicides in their pure form (17.5–23.3 t/ha).
