Abstract <p>Regions with resource-based economies are subjected to environmental burdens that particularly affect water resources. To reduce their hydrological impact, coal mining enterprises take measures to improve wastewater treatment and transportation. Wastewater treatment is guided by the handbook on best available technologies. In addition, new science-intensive measures to reduce wastewater have been introduced. On that basis, water quality conforms to the requirements. Transportation of treated wastewater is also a concern, since secondary contamination of the water is likely in transit because of seasonal factors and the local density of industrial enterprises. After appropriate modifications, a system for organizing the collection, transportation, and discharge of treated wastewater to its destination is recommended for industrial use. This approach minimizes the impact of the treated wastewater on existing water resources and ensures environmental sustainability in the region.</p>
