Coal Derivatives and Coking Byproducts for Supercapacitor Electrodes

This article provides an overview of coal derivatives and coking byproducts that are promising as electrodes in superconductors. Results obtained in the past decade are considered: methods of producing carbon materials, properties of the porous structure, and values of the electrodes’ unit electrochemical capacitance. Their prospects for practical application are assessed. It is found that coal of various ranks and coking byproducts are promising for the production of superconductor electrodes. For superconductor electrodes produced from carbonized coal, coal tar, and pitch, the unit electrochemical capacitance is high: ≤200 F/g.
