Abstract <p>According to numerous studies, the most significant factor affecting the flatness of rolled steel is considered to be the uneven distribution of drawing ratios across the strip width and, consequently, the shape of its cross-section. The author previously proposed a flatness prediction model that takes into account key process parameters. A previous ranking of factors demonstrated the most significant impact on the rolled strip flatness of the process characteristics that determine the inter-roll gap’ shape in the stand. In this study, the actual influence of the rolled product’ transverse profile at the exit from the continuous mill group stands on the flat defect amplitude was assessed. The primary impact of the rolled product’ cross-sectional shape between the stands on the finished strip flatness was confirmed.</p>
