Influence of Genesis of Ore Components on the Strength of Iron Ore Briquettes

The features of briquetting iron ore raw materials with different proportions of technogenic and natural components were investigated. It was shown that briquetting technology for natural materials (ore and concentrate fines) is gaining increasing importance in connection with the challenges of decarbonizing metallurgy. A technology was developed for preparing mixtures of natural and technogenic raw materials, controlling the granulometric composition, and briquetting. The sodium‑silicate based binder used in the experiments allows reaching a strength of 230 kg per briquette without sintering. Ore and pellet fines have the same effect on briquette strength (they increase it), and there is no difference related to the genesis of the raw materials. Only the granulometric (particle size) composition matters.
