Abstract

The article presents the results of studies on the thermal cycle and the formation of the fusion zone during electroslag surfacing of a horizontally positioned workpiece surface. It is shown that when electroslag surfacing is performed using two consumable electrodes oscillating across the width of the deposited layer, the penetration depth varies within 10–30% of the overlay height. The resulting chemical inhomogeneity of the fusion zone and discontinuities in the cross-section of the deposited metal are caused by changes in the depth of the slag bath during periodic flux addition. Based on the conducted research, the possibility of using standard electroslag welding equipment for restoration surfacing purposes has been established.
