Practical Aspects of Gas Cleaning with the Use of Ceramic Filters

Abstract

Over the past 20 years, integtated gas cleaning systems with ceramic fibrous high-temperature filtering elements and units based on them have become widespread. With the use of such units, it is quite possible to purify gases without cooling not only from suspended dust particles, but also from hazardous gases such as CO, NOx, SO2, HF, HCl, VOCs, PCDD/PCDF, as well as benz(a)pyrene. However, there is no data available in open-access publications concerning their performance characteristics such as strength, permeability, resistance with respect to humid and aggressive gases, as well as concerning the efficiency of gas cleaning in filtering plants with fibrous ceramic filtering elements. This article presents the results of research, practical work, technical characteristics, as well as economic and environmental aspects of the use of ceramic filters in different industries including ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy as well as the production of thermal insulation materials and glass.
