Structure and Crystallization of Liquid Metals

Using the method of probability theory, it is shown that the formation of clusters in liquid metals, which can be centers of crystallization, is impossible. Liquid metals are two-phase dispersed equilibrium thermodynamic systems consisting of an average of 4% atoms and 96% nanocrystals. Crystallization of liquid metals is a nanostructured process that is greatly influenced by surface-active elements, especially oxygen and (or) hydrogen atoms. They are adsorbed on nanocrystals and prevent the formation of crystallization centers. Molecular hydrogen released on the branches of dendritic microcrystals has a negative effect on the process of crystallization of liquid metals. To reduce the demodificating effect of surfactants and molecular hydrogen, the best remedy is an increased solidification rate of liquid metals.
