Abstract
A comprehensive study of the thermal performance of hood furnaces for heat treatment of cold-rolled sheet steel is performed. Their shortcomings leading to problems when heating solid metal in the form of tightly wound coils of sheet and tape are shown. Directions for improving the design of hood furnaces and methods for increasing their efficiency are provided.
