Technology of Smelting Structural Carbon Steels Using the Out-of Furnace Refining Methods

The technology to smelt carbon structural steels using the methods of out-of furnace refining in a ladle-furnace unit is considered. To improve the performance of the electric arc furnace, the technology of out-of furnace steel treatment was implemented, due to which high quality of the smelted metal with purification from harmful impurities (sulfur) and nonmetallic inclusions was achieved. The specified technology led to a reduction in the duration of smelting, an increase in furnace productivity and a decrease in the specific energy costs.
