Study of the Manufacturing Technology of Gas Turbine Engine (GTE) Disk Forgings from Titanium Alloys by Flaring-Upsetting of Tubular Blanks

Abstract
The technical feasibility of manufacturing gas turbine engine (GTE) rotor disks from titanium alloys by distribution and unfolding of the pipe billet into a flat disk is demonstrated. The new technology eliminates the need for unique pressing equipment for manufacturing disk forgings by volume stamping, providing the maximum level of mechanical and fatigue properties of the alloy and the microstructure of the nano-microcrystalline level in the most loaded disk blade zone.
