Development of Methodological Support for Conducting Corrosion Tests for Gas Facilities

The problem of combating internal corrosion and using inhibitor protection against it is relevant at gas facilities under the conditions of production and transportation of hydrocarbons with the presence of aggressive CO2. To obtain more reliable data on the protective properties of corrosion inhibitors, in oil and gas laboratory practice, in addition to traditional (gravimetric and electrochemical) methods, the measurement of the contact angle and the use of cyclic voltammetry were tested. Based on contact angle measurements, it was established that after corrosion tests in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor, the steel surface becomes more hydrophobic compared to an uninhibited medium. The results correlate with the protective properties obtained by traditional corrosion testing methods. It was shown that the cyclic voltammetry method allows for a comparative analysis of the film-forming properties of corrosion inhibitors.
