Corrosion: Materials, Protection Rationale and Prospects for Using Protection Methods for Surfaces of Marine Internal Combustion Engines from Cavitation

The problems of protecting surfaces of marine internal combustion engines from the intense effects of cavitation are considered. Based on the analysis of the literary, issues related to the manifestation of cavitation in liquid media are studied. The influence of various factors, for example, temperature and viscosity of the liquid on the intensity of cavitation processes, is noted, and a set of different hypotheses related to the material destruction from cavitation is considered. Taking into account the analysis of a number of studies, it is concluded that the use of main and distilled water as a working fluid is not recommended, but the use of antifreeze of various grades is recommended. At the end of the article, it is concluded that polyurethane-based polymers, for example, polyurethane rubbers, which can be used to protect surfaces of marine internal combustion engines, have good adhesive properties.
