Production of Polyclonal Whole-Cell Anti-IgY against Helicobacter pylori and Determination of Its Stability in Environmental Conditions and Interaction with Salmonella and E. coli

Background: Helicobacter pylori, a pathogenic bacterium linked to gastritis and gastric carcinoma, poses challenges due to decreasing treatment effectiveness caused by antibiotic resistance. Therefore, alternative treatment approaches are being explored. Passive immunotherapy utilizing IgY antibodies represents one of the alternative treatment methods. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of specific IgY antibodies on the growth of H. pylori and its attachment to the AGS cell line. Materials and methods: White Leghorn hens were immunized with H. pylori to produce specific IgY. The IgY was purified using polyethylene glycol precipitation and analyzed using SDS-PAGE and western blotting. The efficacy of the IgY antibody was evaluated using the ELISA method. The present study investigated the inhibitory effect of the specific IgY antibody on the growth of H. pylori, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, and E. coli. Results: The IgY antibody demonstrated specific targeting against H. pylori as confirmed by ELISA, resulting in a remarkable growth inhibition rate. In comparison, the growth inhibition rates for Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and E. coli were significantly lower. Conclusion: IgY antibodies have the potential to reduce and inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori, making them a viable alternative therapy.
